Favorita is a native Piedmontese grape, so called because it was once said to be a grape “favoured” over others, the favour in question being given by King Vittorio Emanuele II.
A very large grape, it was once served for eating. It became a wine grape partly thanks to climate change, which has increasingly concentrated it and improved its structure. It was greatly appreciated by grandfather Carlo, who made Favorita as a wine to drink in spring, before the reds were ready.
