March in the vineyard among women, Piedmontese dialect, and Arneis Tre Fie

Between budding vines and lengthening days, the arrival of spring brings new energy to Agricola Marrone, our winery with restaurant in La Morra, in the heart of the Langhe!

March in the vineyards of the Langhe: work among buds and a new season

March in the vineyard is a crucial month: the vines awaken, sap begins to flow again and the first buds mark the beginning of the vegetative cycle. The final pruning is completed, canes are checked and the plants are prepared for the growing season with targeted interventions, including canopy management, suckering and the first green operations.

Vineyard work in March also includes careful attention to the soil: the land is managed, organic or mineral fertilization is carried out and the roots are protected to encourage balanced growth. Every gesture is an investment in the quality of Langhe wines, from fruity whites to great reds, which will be bottled in the months to come.

Dialect word of the month: “Tre Fie”

For March, the Piedmontese dialect word we have chosen is Tre Fie, three daughters: it is the name we have proudly carried for years on the label of our Langhe DOC Arneis, dedicated to us sisters. An expression that brings together family, our deep connection with the Langhe and the female presence that has always lived and animated both vineyard and cellar.

Denise, Serena and Valentina are the Tre Fie of Agricola Marrone, of course, but in this special month our sincere and heartfelt thoughts go out to all the women in wine who, in the Langhe and beyond, have intertwined their lives with winemaking and entrepreneurship, bringing care, vision and determination.

Women, vineyards and words in Piedmontese dialect

In the Piedmontese rural tradition, women have often been the steady presence: while male voices filled the vineyard rows, the quiet direction was almost always female, attentive to the seasons, to the rhythms of the vine and to the balance of the family. In the Marrone family it was the same: from Grandmother Rita to the generations that followed, women have guided work in the vineyard and cellar with respect for the land and for the vineyards of the Langhe.

The Piedmontese dialect of our area preserves many affectionate expressions dedicated to women: bumbunin (little girl), giuietta (little jewel), stelìn-a (little star), tesòra (treasure), fiurin-a (little flower), and many more. Soft words that seem to come from traditional kitchens, among the aromas of slow-cooked sauces, lit stoves and the voices of grandmothers. The very sound of these words is sweet and intimate, carrying with it the idea of care, protection and home: the same atmosphere we wish our guests to experience in our winery.

Arneis Tre Fie: the white wine of the Langhe dedicated to women

With March, the table shifts in tone: recipes become lighter, with seasonal vegetables, aromatic herbs and fresher dishes that call for fragrant white wines such as Langhe Arneis. Our Langhe DOC Arneis “Tre Fie” is an elegant white wine, straw yellow with greenish reflections, offering aromas of white flowers, white-fleshed fruit and a delicate hint of hazelnut, perfect with traditional Piedmontese starters, seasonal salads, fish dishes and delicate white meats.

Tre Fie comes from vineyards cultivated with great attention to grape ripening and is vinified with care: manual harvesting, gentle pressing, controlled fermentation and aging on fine lees to preserve freshness and aromas. It is the wine we recommend for a spring lunch, an aperitif overlooking the vineyards or to accompany a tasting menu in our Ristorante Marrone.

Marrone – Winery with Restaurant: March between spring menus and wine tourism in the Langhe

At Marrone – Winery with Restaurant in La Morra, March is the month of culinary experimentation: the chef begins testing dishes that will enter the new spring menu, designed to enhance both white and red wines from the Langhe. Colorful vegetables, fresh herbs, flower petals and lighter dishes arrive, naturally pairing with Agricola Marrone wines.

For those choosing a weekend in the Langhe, our winery with restaurant offers guided tastings, vineyard and cellar tours, lunches and dinners overlooking the vineyards in a warm and welcoming family setting. It is an authentic way to experience the wine region of Piedmont: discovering words in Piedmontese dialect, learning about the stories of Langhe women and tasting the wines right where they are born.

The vintage ahead: a promise in the vineyards of the Langhe

Every March carries a promise: that of the vintage growing in the vineyards of the Langhe, shaped by the way we care for the vines and read the sky, the rain and the wind. Arneis Tre Fie and all Agricola Marrone wines are born from this balance between agronomic care, cellar expertise and family sensitivity, built over four generations of Piedmontese winegrowers.

As the buds in the vineyard prepare to burst, with a fresh glass of Arneis Tre Fie, dedicated to our Tre Fie, we raise a toast to all the women in wine!
